Just for LOLz: Let’s Categorizing Ocarina of Time’s Bosses Using the Monster Hunter Bestiary
Because why not!?
So let’s get started!
Parasitic Armored Arachnid - Ghoma
Ghoma is always some sort of spider, scorpion, or crab like monster in its numerous appearances in the series and can easily be classified as a Temnoceran.
Infernal Dinosaur - King Dodongo
Easily a Brute Wyvern akin to Barroth or Deviljho!
Bio-electric Anemone – Barinade
The first entry that doesn’t quite fit neatly into any of the MH monster types. If I were hard-pressed to classify, I’d put it in the Carapaceon group.
Evil Spirit from Beyond – Phantom Ganon
Going with Relict here, like Leshen!
Subterranean Lava Dragon - Volvagia
Volvagia’s design is unlike all the other Flying Wyverns in Monster Hunter and it looks more like a Leviathan. But I think it fits better in the Flying Wyvern category simply because it can fly!
Giant Aquatic Amoeba – Morpha
I got nothin’. Morpha would exist in a category that doesn’t exist in the MH bestiary. It is essentially an amoeba that looks like an eyeball. Nothing too exciting at all. It can certainly bend water to its will though, so there’s that I guess.
Phantom Shadow Beast – Bongo Bongo
I don’t feel the most comfortable classifying Bongo Bongo into the any of the MH bestiary categories. If he got rid of his drum and has partial legs with detached feet hidden up there in the darkness, he could get away with being a Brute Wyvern with massive guns throwing hang-makers like Rajang.
Sorcerous Sisters – Twinrova
Going with Relict here as well, just like Phantom Ganon.
Great King of Evil - Ganondorf
Ganondorf’s human form would not be classified according to MH rules. However, his beast form…
GANON
Ganon’s beast form could be a Fanged Wyvern, Fanged Beast, or Brute Wyvern – any of the three would be appropriate! However, for Ocarina of Time Ganon, I think Fanged Beast like Rajang would be most appropriate; as I’d consider Ganondorf’s Twilight Princess beast mode to be a Brute Wyvern.
That gives me an idea of perhaps categorizing Twilight Princess bosses next… that should be fun too.
And what do you think of these categorizations? I’d love to know what the broader community has to say!
