The Mistreatment of OoT’s OST

In my post back in December, I mentioned my disappointment with how Pony Canyon handled Ocarina of TIme’s OST. The soundtrack release contains 82 tracks and has a run time of The score is fantastic and really deserved to be treated much better than being crammed on one disc and had a run time of 78:02. That disc is jammed pack with very little room left to spare.

In order to fit that so much music on one disc, none of the songs loop at all (well, there is on track that loops: “Hyrule Castle Courtyard”). I wondering, what was the rationale for this? Did Pony Canyon have a shoe-string budget and couldn’t afford to put out for more discs? I hope we get an answer to this question one day.

This much music really should have been spread across three or four discs. It would’ve been a much better listening experience.

Fortunately, Nintendo has improved very much with this sort of thing. Modern Nintendo soundtracks are handled with the appropriate care and respect. The Fire Emblem OSTs and the more recent Zelda OSTs (Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, A Link Between Worlds, and Breath of the Wild) are great examples of how these releases should be handled.
