Famitsu Sales - Week #26

The numbers are in. The PS5’s biggest Japanese exclusive released last week and here are the numbers:

Final Fantasy XVI launches with 336,027 physical copies sold. A middling result based on our own expectations - great given the PS5’s installed based but paltry compared to previous Final Fantasy numbers. We’ll hopefully get digital numbers at some point. SquareEnix released PR announcing the game sold three million units (shipped + digital).

Where things get interesting is in the hardware tallies:

FFXVI release saw the PS5 hit 85k units this week. The disc-based PS5 was the best selling individual sku - no doubt pushed by the FFXVI bundle. The Switch, however, sold nearly 106k units in the same week as the PS5 biggest exclusive release in Japan. Craziness.

Will be interesting to see what FFXVI’s legs look like.

How many weeks before FFXVI falls below ToTK?
