NPD (Circana) Results - May 2023

NPDs dropped earlier this week and here are the results:

As expected, Tears of the Kingdom takes the top spot. Breath of the Wild charting at number #13 is also very impressive. Most impressive is that these are just physical boxed copies counted, as Nintendo does not share its digital sales with NPD group.

Tears of the Kingdom is instantly the second best-selling game of 2023 year-to-date, with Hogwarts Legacy still holding the top spot. For context, Hogwarts Legacy has been released on PS4, PS5, XBox One, XBox Series, and PC - with a Switch port incoming. This is a fantastic result for Nintendo. Here are YTD software sales through May 2023:

In terms of hardware, Switch came out on top in terms of total sales and revenue, fueled by what is probably its biggest release of the year (we’ll see later this year if Super Mario Bros. Wonder has anything to say about that). PS5 was in second in sales and revenue with XBox Series coming in third.
