What I’m currently Playing #2 - The Great Backlog Clearing Continues…

So, back in December, I was playing the following games:

  • Skyrim

  • Paper Mario: The Origami King

  • Star Ocean: First Departure R

  • Monster Hunter Rise

So far, I’ve done everything notable in Monster Hunter base game and will be revisiting it once Sunbreak drops. I did manage to complete Papar Mario. And I’m at the very end of Star Ocean and I’ll put that to bed pretty soon.

So the updated list is as follows:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

I’m excited to be going through this one again. I’ve only played through it once and didn’t get around to doing Hero Mode on the Wii. It would have been ideal to have the option to select Hero Mode on your first playthrough like the Link’s Awakening remake but it’s fine, I’ll get to it eventually. So far I’m about eight hours in and enjoying the game a lot. I’m using button controls this time around and they work rather well. I do wish we had the option to assign the right stick to camera by default instead of your sword, but I’m used to it now. I was pretty disappointed with some of the design choices in Skyward Sword on Wii, mainly Fi spoiling puzzle solutions for me before I even had a chance to figure it out on my own (a cardinal sin in a Zelda game as far as I am concerned). My other grievance was the intense linearity of the game but I’ll see how I feel about that this time through.

Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition

Darksiders was my very first game I picked up for the Wii U game at launch and I really enjoyed it. I’m looking to complete more sidequests during this playthrough. This game is a big step down from the first game in terms of the amount of tender love and care it received. There’s no performance mode this time around, and in terms of quality mode, well, in the more open field areas the resolution drops noticeably. This port wasn’t handled with nearly as much care as the Warmastered prequel, so folks should just know that going in.

My goal is to have both Skyward Sword HD and Darksiders 2 completed by the time Xenoblade Chronicles 3 releases.

Ring Fit Adventure

Ab Guard!

I am having such a great time with game! I just finished the first world and I see the game is opening up now and making more features available to me. It’s a workout too! This one will obviously be a slow burn. While I’m playing this for the fitness aspect of it, there’s a truly solid RPG underneath that veneer!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I haven’t played it much lately, but, like I said in the previous Now Playing, I’m sure at some point this game will just grab and make me addicted. I’m just still not there yet.

Ori and the Blind Forest

Making my way through this lovely Metroidvania. It’s a fantastic game. My only gripe is Ori feels sooooo floaty, especially coming off of Metrod: Dread last year. But I’m slowly but surely making my way through this gem.

Star Ocean: First Departure R

I think I am at the endgame now, shouldn’t be too much farther to go. I’m grinding some before the final showdown.

Transistor

I am making my way through this one at a snail’s pace. I haven’t gotten too into it at all since I’m playing in quick spurts; save point to save point basically. But I’ll keep at it and see how I like it compared the Bastion when all is said and done.
