Playstation’s Q2 Financials

Sony’s Q2 financials dropped and here are the hardware & software results followed by some commentary.

I probably should be more interested in revenue, expenses, and profits but I tend to focus on how hardware and software are moving.

The PS5 is having a banner year. The only question that remains is if it will meet Sony’s 25 million unit forecast. As of now, I’m not seeing it - but that hinges on just how huge the Xmas quarter is.

So far this fiscal year, Sony has shipped 8.2 million units (3.3m in Q1 and 4.9m in Q2). They’d need a massive Q3, maybe reaching 12m at the least, to make it. This is the story to watch for me here. Sony feels as though it can still make it!

Otherwise, this was a record quarter for Playstation:

  • PS5 total LTD reached 46.6 million units

  • Sony has it’s biggest Q2 ever, generating $6.6B

  • Gaming revenue up 32%

  • PS5 less than a million units behind PS4 launch aligned
