Skyward Sword and the Case for Quest Tracking

I've just finished my third playthrough of Skyward Sword and my first run on Hero Mode—it’s been an incredible experience. I'll be posting a full review soon!

That said, there's one glaring omission in Skyward Sword. The townsfolk give you side quests that reward you with Gratitude Crystals, which you can exchange with Batreaux for some valuable items as he pursues his dream of becoming human.

The problem is that there’s no way to keep track of these quests. This feels like a huge missed opportunity—not just as a basic quality-of-life feature, but also because Skyloft could have been the perfect callback to Termina and the Bomber’s Notebook from Majora’s Mask.

Majora's Mask does what Skyward Sword don't.

While the side quests in Skyward Sword may not be as intricate as some of the quests in the Bomber’s Notebook from Majora’s Mask, they still deserve more attention. Each quest should be logged in some way, allowing players to easily keep track of which character needed what, especially after taking a break from the game. Without a proper log, it’s easy to forget who requested what, leading to unnecessary backtracking.

The Bomber’s Notebook, not only tracked quests but also helped players immerse themselves in the world of Termina by showing how characters' lives intersected. Everything is in place to enable a similar system in Skyward Sword and it would‘ve have been a perfect homage.
