Tears of the Kingdom Gamplay Trailer thoughts

Initially I thought to avoid the gameplay trailer but those thoughts dissipated after about five seconds. Here are my thoughts:

The new powers look pretty awesome

We will fundamentally interact with this world in a totally different way than we did in Breath of the Wild. I feel like most people around the web are most excited about the Ultrahand and vehicle crafting. That’s cool and I’m sure I’ll try my hand at making something cool but I don’t see myself spending tons of time with this mechanic.

I can’t wait to get my hands on Fuse though. So many possibilities and I’m interested to see how deep this is mechanic goes.

I’m really going to miss the best champion power from BoTW - Revali’s Gale. The way I play BoTW - which is mostly traversing on foot and spending a lot of time in Hyrule’s canopy. I think the Ascend ability will help out - but it’s obviously more limited than Revali’s Gale.

Here’s hoping we get another climbing armor suit to boost climbing speed because I will need it!

I notice there are no damage numbers - something I was hoping for!

Wish List items

It’s still too early to tell if there is a skill tree or some other deeper character customization - something to “level up” in addition to life and stamina. We did not get a look at the menus at all but it would be nice if some sort of system was in there.

I notice there are no damage numbers though, something I had hoped for.

I do like how the game let’s you know how much your attack power increases during Fuse. Link is equipped in the image above with a tree branch, which has an attack power of 2. The boulder also has an attack power of 2, with total attack power being shown in parenthesis (4). I like this addition - you do not have to go into the menu to see what your attack stat is.

Questions I have still…

Are there traditional dungeons in this game at all? Are there shrines?

How will Link “level up” this time around if there aren’t shrines?

Are spirit orbs still the “experience” currency?

How does he increase his heart count and stamina wheel?

Are there other stats that can be increased this time around?

In the above image, Link fuses a rock to his shield. Does Link attack power increase by one due to fusing this rock to his shield? I would think maybe his shield guard would increase instead - wonder what this is about…

So many questions! We’re getting close to being just one month out. This is going to be such an awesome summer!
