So Nintendo Shadow Dropped Metroid Prime this past week…

Nintendo shadow dropped Metroid Prime Remastered this past Wednesday (2/8/23). Out of nowhere.

At first look, it looked pretty faithful to the original, up-res’d. Then I saw this comparison video and was blown away by how much work went into this. I would’ve been happy with Metroid Prime HD - the original game holds up still to this day - but Retro really went above and beyond. This is what a remaster should be.

I didn’t realize how much they cleaned up the textures, improved the lighting, and fleshed out the character models. The art design really shines through.

I thought Metroid Prime was the best game of the Gamecube, XBox, and PS2 generation. And I believe it has the best soundtrack of any game on the Cube - Kenji Yamamoto went in on this one, and I love how he pays homage to Hip Tanaka’s 'Title’ theme from the original Metroid; it’s littered all over the soundtrack and I love it whenever I hear it.

I’m about four hours in and enjoying every minute of it.

Nintendo did a great practice by dropping this like they did so that new gamers can experience this masterpiece. I hope Nintendo plans to do this with Echoes and Corruption as well; as a way to build up to Metroid Prime 4.

Imagine how highly anticipated the Metroid Prime 4 will be after folks play what I hope to be a Metroid Prime Remastered trilogy! I think and hope that’s the intent here.

If any series deserves this, it’s Metroid.
